Service & Repair
We’re proud to offer fair and reliable service for sewing machines and sergers. We’re an authorized service center for Elna, Necchi, and Janome Sewing Machines, and we’re familiar with most other brands. We may not be able to service or repair high-end models of brands we’re not authorized to service, so we recommend you take your machine to the dealer you bought it from.
Most major sewing machine manufacturers recommend having your sewing machine professionally serviced at least once a year. If you use it a lot, it’s even more important to get it checked more often (every 3-6 months). Even if you don’t sew much, an annual check-up can help prevent problems and keep your machine running smoothly for longer.
During the check-up, a technician will clean the machine, lubricate the parts, and inspect the inside for any issues.

Why Annual Service is Recommended:
-
Prevents Wear and Tear: Regular servicing helps identify and address wear on internal parts before they cause more significant issues.
-
Extends Machine Life: Proper maintenance ensures your sewing machine continues to run smoothly and reliably for years to come.
-
Ensures Optimal Performance: A professional service includes deep cleaning, lubrication, and calibration of timing and tension settings, leading to perfect stitches.
What's Included in a Professional Service:
A skilled technician will give your sewing machine a thorough cleaning, lubricate all moving parts, and check various parts, including:
- The bobbin case and hook area
- The timing belts and motor brushes
- The shafts and bearings
- The feed dogs and gears
- The needle centering and presser foot functionality
Sergers get extra attention because the technician will also check the looper timing for both the upper and lower loopers, the feed dogs, the cutting knife, and the needles.
Embroidery units will also involve checking all the sensors, the belt tension, and the arm movement.
How much will it cost?
Tune Up (Annual Service) - Includes disassembly of machine to the point necessary to effect a good cleaning, lubrication, testing, and basic adjustments. Any parts are extra, and installation may require additional labor. The customer will be contacted if charges are expected to exceed $25.00 (missing screws, worn belts, etc.).
- Basic Service for Mechanical Machines: $89.00
- Basic Service for Computerized Machines (less than 8.5” throat size): $99.00
- Basic Service for Extended Throat Machines (more than 8.5” throat size, computerized & mechanical): $ 139.00
- Basic Service for Mechanical Sergers: $129.00
- Basic Service for Computerized Sergers: $179.00
- Embroidery Arm Service (In addition to the Machine): $45.00
Diagnosis and Repair:
All parts are extra, and installation may require additional labor.
Any work beyond basic cleaning and tune-up is considered “diagnosis and repair”. The standard hourly labor rate for diagnostic services and repairs is $95.00, with a minimum charge of one hour. Additional time is billed in increments of one hour.
Any machine that is “frozen” will be billed for the labor necessary to diagnose and “unfreeze” the machine. A deposit for at least one hour of labor is required, in addition to a tune-up charge after it has been “unfrozen.”
Major parts replacement, mechanical, and electrical system repairs are charged at the hourly labor rate of $95.00 per hour.
Electronic Diagnostic is charged at the rate of $95.00 per hour, and a one-hour deposit is required.
At the end of the diagnostic “exam,” an estimate will be provided before any parts are ordered or work is performed. Any deposit will be applied to the final repair charges if the estimate is approved.
If the customer has picked up the machine prior to approving the estimate for repair, the estimate will only be valid for 10 days.
What to bring with your machine for Service or Diagnosis:
Machine, foot control, power cord, standard zig-zag presser foot (not a 1/4-inch foot), a standard zig-zag throat plate (not a straight stitch throat plate), bobbin case and correct bobbin, and the thread you are using. If bringing an embroidery machine, also include an embroidery hoop and the embroidery foot. If you have the manual you may bring it with you, but a manual is not necessary.
What should you do between professional services?
Clean your sewing machine regularly by removing lint after each use or project, and perform a more thorough cleaning and oiling every few weeks to months, especially if you sew frequently or with lint-producing fabrics.
- After every project: Remove lint from the bobbin case and feed dogs.
- Weekly to monthly: Perform a more thorough clean, including the bobbin area, using a brush, and light oiling of moving parts as recommended in your manual.
- When sewing linty fabrics: Clean the machine more often, as fabrics like velvet or fleece can build up lint quickly.
- Refer to your manual: Check your machine's manual to see if it requires oiling and for specific instructions on where to oil and what type of oil to use.
